. . . and ran the torch race and separately in arms, and also made a demonstration ([apodeixin]) of what they had learnt for those of the citizens who live there,+1+ for which they received praise, and they returned the ships, having hauled them on land, to the treasurer of the trireme-building fund (tōn triēropoiikōn), as they had received them, and offered the other sacrifices to the gods in the countryside and in the garrisons, and fitted out (kateskeuasan) (5) a catapult from their own resources in accordance with the decrees of the people [and dedicated it?], and having been obedient in their training, they have made the demonstration ([apodeixin]) [in arms] both at the Epitaphia and to the Council, doing everything in accordance with the laws for the sake of their good reputation (heneka tou kalōs akouein), and having endured toil (ponous) and hardship (kakopathias) unshrinkingly; and it is proper to honour those who are worthy and to challenge the young men ([neōte]rous) to (adopt) a like-minded ([homoian]) attitude ([hairesin]), in order that there should always be an incentive ([ephamillon]) for those who are ephebes to be disciplined and obedient to those (10) appointed by the People to be in charge of their orderliness ([eukosmian]); and in order that the Council and the People may be seen to be honouring those who are worthy, for good fortune, the Council shall decide, that the presiding committee allotted for the forthcoming Assembly shall place these matters on the agenda, and submit the opinion of the Council to the People, that it seems good to the Council to praise the ephebes of the archonship of Zopyros (186/5), and crown them with a gold crown for their piety ([eu]sebeia[s]) towards the gods and the discipline ([eutaxias]) which they continually showed throughout the year, and for their love of honour ([philot]imias) (15) towards the Council and the People; and to announce this crown . . . uncertain number of lines missing and to praise also their trainers ([didaskalous]), their weapons trainer ([hoplom]achon), Persaios son of Symmachos of Kikynna, and their javelin trainer ([akontistēn]), Nikomachos son of Nikomachos of Aphidna, and their physical trainer ([p]aidotribēn), Hermodoros son of Heortios of Acharnai, and their artillery officer ([katapaltaphetēn]), Pedieus son of Neandros of Kerameis, and their archery trainer ([tox]otēn), Sosos son of Proxenos of Sphettos; and to crown each of them with a foliage crown; and the prytany secretary shall inscribe this decree (20) on a stone stele, as well as the names of the ephebes by tribe, and stand it [in the Agora], and the treasurer of the military fund shall allocate the expenditure accrued for the [stele and its erection (anathesin)].
