At the time when the sword cut the holy bowels of Mother Church, the pope here buried was teaching the commandments of Heaven. Those suddenly rush in who seize him as he sits there by chance. The people than began to offer their necks to the soldiers who had been sent. Then, when the old man saw that someone wished to steal his palm, he was the first to offer himself and his head, before their reckless brutality could harm anyone.Christ, who bestows the rewards of Life, showed the pastor’s worth. In his own person, he guards each member of the flock.
