Stranger, when you ask me who I am and where I come from, I will not conceal it from you: I come from Italy and I became proconsul [of Crete]… and I furnished these baths with their basin (canal?) … with stone columns, and the floor with straight small stones. And I have arranged this statue; now you know everything. Good fortune.
