    Decree 1 . . . he shall be permitted to seek from the People whatever good [he may be worthy of?]. Decree 2 The People decided. -ates (5) son of Athen- of - proposed: in other respects in accordance with the Council’s proposal, but since Apelles son of Zopyros of Byzantium does what good (10) is in his power on behalf of the Athenian People, and collaborates with the generals whom the city sends out in every way they require, the People shall resolve: (15) that Apelles son of Zopyros of Byzantium shall be proxenos and benefactor of the Athenian People, himself and his descendants; and the generals (20) in office at any time and the Council shall take care of him and the prytany (prytaneis) who are allotted . . . (25) collaborate . . . ; and the prytany secretary (grammatea kata prytaneian) shall inscribe the proxeny for him and stand it on the acropolis; and (30) for inscribing the stele the treasurer of the People shall give 20 drachmas from the People’s fund for expenditure on decrees.
