    In the archonship of Chairondas (338/7), in the - prytany, of -, for which Philippos son of Antiphemos of Eiresidai was secretary. On the - of Thargelion, the - of the prytany. Hegesippos son of Hegesias of Sounion proposed: concerning what the Akarnanians say, Phormio and Karphinas , who have recently come, the People shall decide: since Phormio and Karphinas , being ancestral friends of the Athenian People, are maintaining the (10) good will, which their ancestors handed down, towards the Athenian People, and now having supported in force, were mustered with the Athenians, as the general commanded, to praise them for their excellence and to crown each of them with a golden crown; (15) and since the Athenian People made Phormio the grandfather of Phormio and Karphinas an Athenian, and his descendants, and the decree by which this was enacted was inscribed on the acropolis, the grant which the People made to Phormio their grandfather (20) shall be valid for Phormio and Karphinas and their descendants; and they shall choose the tribe and deme and phratry to which they wish to belong; and to praise also the other Akarnanians who gave support along with Phormio and Karphinas , and they shall have, until they return home, (25) right of ownership (enktēsin) of whatever houses they wish while they live at Athens , free of the metic tax, and shall bring and answer lawsuits like Athenians, and shall pay capital taxes (eisphoras) , any that may be levied, with the Athenians; and the Council in office at any time shall take care of them, (30) and the generals in office at any time, so that they suffer no harm; and the secretary of the Council shall inscribe this decree on a stone stele and stand it on the acropolis, and shall inscribe also the names of the Akarnanians on the same stele, writing them under the cities (35) of Akarnania to which each belongs; and for inscribing the stele the treasurer of the People shall give 30 drachmas to the secretary of the Council from the People’s fund for expenditure on decrees. col. 1 In crown: Phormio .
