[Statue] of Gracchus, of clarissimus rank. To Arrius Maecius Gracchus, of clarissimus rank, to so great and so caring a patron of the colony of the Salernitani, who has recalled our city, which was lying destitute and exhausted, to splendour by building a water conduit worthy of its rank; who deigns to relieve its fleeing citizens and exhausted councillorsby his foresight, and by his high-minded administration with regard to the contribution for its citizens and [council] which is appropriate to the well-being of their country; whose actions, if we were to recount them all, the day does not suffice. On account of his merits and the love which he shows towards council and citizens, the council and people ( ordo populusque ) of Salerno have resolved that [this] statue should be set up.(trans.
