    The emperor Justinian now raised again to supreme power (κῦρον) the city which had suffered badly through wickedness, by providing it with a large wall. Thereby she also gained the glory of bearing the emperor’s name, through the wisdom of Eustathius. To [honour] the splendour of your virtues, the city carries your image, Emperor, as a defence against evil.

    (Versinschrift: 5 Hexameter, in 10 Zeilen) Der Kaiser Justinian hat nun die Stadt wieder zur vollen Souveränität (κῦρον) erhoben, die durch Ruchlosigkeit gelitten hatte, indem er eine große Mauer erbaute. Zugleich empfing sie auch die Ehre, den Namen des Kaisers [tragen zu dürfen], durch die Klugheit des Eustathios. [Um] den Glanz Deiner Tugenden [strahlen zu lassen] trägt die Stadt Dein Standbild, Kaiser, [weil es] die Abwehr von Not [garantiert].
