'To the good health of our lords Valentinian, Valens, and Gratian, forever Augusti, in the governorship ( proconsulatu ) of Petronius Claudius, of clarissimus rank, with Marius Victorianus, of clarissimus rank, as legate. The swimming pool ( oceanus ) was built from the foundations, the bathing room ( soliaris ) that had collapsed in ruin was restored to an improved condition, and a new entrance was opened, decorated by the setting up of statues. Flavianus Leontius, chief councillor ( principalis ) of Carthaginian origin, curator of the city, began and completed [the work] with the financial support of the most distinguished body of counselors ( ordo ) and with the love of the people, and dedicated it' (transl. C. Machado).
