The city [set this up to] Agathias, the orator, the poet, admiring the rhythm of his twofold eloquence. Like a mother she finished it for her son, and set up this image, a witness to his love [towards her] and to his skill. Memnonius the father, and his brother did she set up along with him, warrants of a most noble family.

Last Statue of Antiquities
Die Stadt [ehrt] den Agathias, den Redner, den Verseschmied, [denn] sie bewundert den Rhythmus seiner zweifachen Wohlberedtheit. Wie eine Mutter für einen Sohn vollendete sie [dieses Denkmal] und stellte dieses Bildnis auf, ein Zeugnis seiner Liebe [für die Stadt] und seiner Weisheit. Memnonios, seinen Vater, und seinen Bruder stellte sie mit ihm zusammen auf, [beide] Kennzeichen einer sehr vornehmen Familie.
