Caesar gave us army careers and awards. Twice I received the awards of the double torc: the first I was given as companion in the weapon-bearer squadron, the second as guard of the watch in the palace. Thus he increased our fortune as did his uncle Constantine who once graced us with the sacred name (transl. M. P. Speidel) (Note: Speidel reads 'avunculus Constantinus' in line 5, different from the present editor).
